Create Branded Short URLs
Branded short URLs replace forgettable random strings with links that look intentional and professional. Brevr gives you two ways to brand your links: a custom alias on your Brevr link, or your own domain entirely.
What You’ll Learn
- How to set a custom alias on any short link
- How to use your own domain for all your links
- Which option is right for your situation
How Branded URLs Work
By default, Brevr generates a short link with a random five-character slug — something like brevr.one/x7k2p. That gets the job done, but it does not say anything about your brand or the content behind the link. A custom alias replaces that slug with a word or phrase you choose. A custom domain goes further and replaces the brevr.one part too. Both options work together so your links look completely on-brand from start to finish.
| Option | Example | Setup Required |
|---|---|---|
| Default Brevr URL | brevr.one/x7k2p | None |
| Custom alias | brevr.one/summer-sale | No |
| Custom domain | go.yourbrand.com/summer-sale | Yes — see Custom Domains guide |

Set a Custom Alias
A custom alias is the simplest way to make your links more shareable. Instead of brevr.one/x7k2p, you get something like brevr.one/summer-sale — easy to say out loud, easy to type, and easy to remember.
Custom aliases work well in print, on slides, in emails, and anywhere else people might type a URL manually rather than clicking it.
How to Set a Custom Alias
- Open the link editor when creating a new link, or edit an existing one.
- Find the “Alias” field below the destination URL.
- Type your chosen alias — use letters, numbers, and hyphens. Avoid spaces.
- Check availability — Brevr will tell you immediately if the alias is already taken.
- Save the link.
Your link is now available at brevr.one/your-alias. The alias is permanent once set on a live link, so choose carefully.

Tips for a good alias:
- Keep it short — under 20 characters is ideal
- Use a hyphen to separate words (
summer-sale, notsummersale) - Match the alias to the campaign or content it points to
- Avoid aliases that could become outdated (
2024-promoages quickly)
Use Your Own Domain
A custom domain replaces brevr.one with a domain you own — for example, go.yourbrand.com. Every short link you create then lives on your own brand, not Brevr’s. This is the strongest branding option and builds trust with your audience because the domain is recognizable.
Custom domains require a short setup process where you add a DNS record to your domain. The full walkthrough is in the Custom Domains guide linked below.
Plan limits for custom domains:
- Free plan: 1 custom domain
- Pro plan: 5 custom domains
- Business plan: 25 custom domains
Once your domain is connected, you can select it from a dropdown in the link editor when creating or editing any link. You can also pair a custom domain with a custom alias for a fully branded URL like go.yourbrand.com/summer-sale.

When to Use a Custom Domain
Use a custom domain when brand recognition matters most — in paid ads, email campaigns, printed materials, or any public-facing link where you want people to associate the URL with your company rather than a third-party tool.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I change a custom alias after I set it?
Yes. Open the link editor and update the alias field. Be aware that the old alias immediately stops working when you save, so update any places you shared the original link.
What characters can I use in a custom alias?
You can use lowercase letters (a–z), numbers (0–9), and hyphens (-). Spaces, uppercase letters, and special characters are not supported.
What if my chosen alias is already taken?
Brevr checks availability in real time as you type. If an alias is taken, try a variation — add a word, a number, or use a different phrasing.
Can I use the same custom alias on multiple domains?
Yes. The same alias (for example, /summer-sale) can exist independently on different custom domains. Aliases are unique per domain, not across your entire workspace.
Does using a custom domain affect my analytics?
No. Analytics work exactly the same on custom domain links as on brevr.one links. All click data, device breakdowns, and location data are tracked and displayed in your dashboard.
Is there a cost to connect a custom domain?
Connecting a custom domain requires a paid plan. See the plan comparison page for current pricing. The domain itself must be purchased separately through a domain registrar.
