Redirect Visitors by Country

Country targeting lets you send visitors to a different URL based on where they are in the world. One Brevr link handles your entire international audience — no duplicate links, no manual segmentation.

How Country Targeting Works

Brevr detects each visitor’s country from their IP address and checks your rules in order. The first rule that matches their country sends them to the destination you set.

If no rule matches — for example, a visitor from a country you haven’t targeted — they land on your default URL. You can assign multiple countries to a single destination URL, so French-speaking Belgium and France can both go to your French-language site with one rule.

How to Set Up Country Targeting

  1. Open your link in the Brevr link editor.
  2. Navigate to the Smart Routing section in the left panel.
  3. Click “Add Rule” and select “Country” as the rule type.
  4. Pick one or more countries from the dropdown. You can select multiple countries per rule.
  5. Enter the destination URL for those countries.
  6. Repeat steps 3–5 to add rules for other regions.
  7. Set your default URL — this catches all visitors whose country does not match any rule.
  8. Save the link.

Example: Multilingual Campaign Setup

Here is how a three-language campaign might look with country targeting:

Visitors from France, Belgium, and Switzerland all reach the French site. German and Austrian visitors go to the German site. Everyone else hits the English default. One link covers all three audiences.

Use Cases for Country Targeting

Multilingual websites. Send each visitor to the version of your site written in their language. No need to ask visitors to pick a language — Brevr handles it automatically.

Region-specific pricing pages. Show visitors the pricing that applies to their country. Avoid confusion from currency mismatches or unavailable plans.

GDPR compliance pages. Redirect visitors from the European Union to a dedicated privacy-compliant landing page. Keep your campaigns legal without building separate links.

Local event promotions. Run one link in a global campaign and send attendees to the event page for their city or region.

App store localization. Send visitors from specific countries to localized App Store or Google Play listings when your app supports multiple regional stores.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does Brevr detect a visitor’s country?

Brevr uses the visitor’s IP address to determine their country. This works for the vast majority of visitors. VPN users may appear to be in a different country than their actual location.

Can I assign the same destination URL to multiple countries?

Yes. When you create a rule, you can select as many countries as you want. They all point to the same destination URL. This keeps your rule list short and easy to manage.

What happens if a visitor’s country is not in any rule?

They go to your default URL. Every Brevr link requires a default URL, so no visitor is ever left without a destination.

Is there a limit on how many country rules I can add?

Pro and Business plans support unlimited country rules per link. Free plan users may have a lower limit — check your plan page for details.

Can I target regions or continents instead of individual countries?

Country targeting works at the country level. To target a region like “Western Europe,” add each individual country in that region to one rule. This gives you precise control over which countries are included.

Open your Brevr link and navigate to the Smart Routing section in the left panel. This is where all country, device, and A/B rules are managed.

Step 2: Add a Country Rule

Click “Add Rule” and select “Country” as the rule type. A country picker and a destination URL field will appear below the rule selector.

Step 3: Select Countries and Enter a Destination URL

Pick one or more countries from the dropdown — for example, France, Belgium, and Switzerland — then enter the destination URL those visitors should reach.

Step 4: Add Rules for Additional Regions

Repeat the process for each additional region. Each rule gets its own country selection and destination URL, keeping all your regional logic in one place.

Step 5: Set the Default URL

Enter a default URL at the bottom of the Smart Routing panel. This URL catches any visitor whose country does not match any of your rules, so no visitor is ever left without a destination.

Click Save. Brevr immediately begins routing visitors based on their country. All three audiences — French, German, and everyone else — are now handled by a single link.
